PROFILES
THE FUN PART
Profiles range from hardly any information to an overload of information. From dead serious to ridiculous and humorous. From “It looks like I wrote this at 3am, drunk” to “I clearly paid a professional profile writer to write my profile.” And a lot of them have the same adjectives, the same types of sentences, the same structure, etc.But that’s to be expected right? It’s an online dating site with preset questions. There really isn’t room for a whole lot of creativity.
One recurring theme I’ve noticed about men’s profiles on Match is travel. The majority of the profiles I’ve viewed mention traveling. And I’m not talking about minor traveling; I’m talking about traveling all over the world, frequently.
Maybe I’m the weirdo here, but I don’t have a job that would allow me to travel all over the world, multiple times. Nor do I have that kind of money. I’m under 30 and I work 9 to 10 hours a day at a corporate office and I’ve got bills to pay (including student loans).
Am I doing something wrong here?
Anyway, I look for the same things in a profile that I look for in a message; the proper spelling/grammar, sense of humor, no novels (the shorter the profile the better, to me). And then of course, there’s the photos.
I understand, sometimes it is difficult to capture what you truly look like in a photo. Some people are not so photogenic. I get that. But sometimes there are photos on here that, as you’re clicking through them, it’s like you’re going through a flip book and the guy is getting older or heavier, or the hairline is receding.

Sometimes, you look at the photos and think “there’s no way that all of these photos are of the same guy.” And I’m always really skeptical of the ones who use professional looking headshots, or the guys who have shirtless pictures and are really buff and look almost fake. I really shouldn’t think this way, but I can’t help it. Just why would a gorgeous looking man need to use match? Why? Something must be wrong with him. Something major. (Flawed thinking, I understand this but again, can’t help myself!)
So I try to find guys who look like they aren’t posting fake pictures, altered pictures, or pictures from 10 years ago, and who have the physical characteristics I’m looking for. How can I tell if the pictures are not fake, altered, old, inaccurate, etc.? I really can’t, I’m just making educated guesses.
